Product information

This variety is gold to bronze-yellow in colour in summer, green-yellow in the winter. Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Plumosa Aurea' has a beautiful colour change twice a year. The foliage is soft and the twigs are feather-shaped. This variety has close, thin, frizzy branches similar to the variety 'Boulevard'. The conifer grows broadly, but keeps its shrub like shape. Adult specimens can have a cone habit too. If it is not pruned, the fast-growing 'Plumosa Aurea' can grow several metres high. The conifer is extremely susceptible to fires under dry conditions. This cultivar thrives on lime-rich, heavy, clay-based soil.

Origin
The British plant collector Robert Fortune sent Chamaecyparis pisifera 'Plumosa Aurea' to the Royal Nursery in Bagshot in Great Britain in 1861 with some other types of the same species from Japan.
