Product information

Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Top Point’ has bright green needles. In the winter the needles turn purple. The short, regular and upwardly growing branches give the dwarf conifer a pyramid to cone-shaped habit. Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Top Point’ is a juvenile form and so keeps its needles.

Conifer experts point out the strong resemblance of Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Top Point' to Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Heatherbun', C. thyoides 'Purple Heather' and C. thyoides 'Rubicon'. Not all experts agree on whether these four cultivars belong to the Chamaecyparis thyoides type, or to Chamaecyparis pisifera, or maybe even to Thuja occidentalis. It has also not been ruled out that they are hybrids of two types. It is noticeable that the cultivar has not been included in recent editions of handbooks. Only the known checklist mentions ‘Top Point’. A products list from 1992 from the Libo Tree Nursery in Baexem is claimed to be the source.
Conifer specialist Leen Konijn (Ederveen) declares to have discovered Chamaecyparis thyoides 'Top Point' in 1985 on his nursery. According to him ‘Top Point’ is a descendant of Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Andelyensis'. He names the 'point' as in 'Top Point' as its difference to Chamaecyparis thyoides ‘Andelyensis Conica'.
